Jibreel Khazan was born Ezell Blair Jr., a Greensboro, NC native. Ezell Alexander Blair Sr., his father was a well known activist and educator in Greensboro.  He graduated from Dudley High School in 1959 and he went on to attend N.C. A&T and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology in 1963.

While a student at A&T, Khazan was president of the following prominent organizations, the junior class student government association, N.C. A&T college chapter of the NAACP and the Greensboro Congress of Racial Equality(C.O.R.E.). After graduating from N.C. A&T University, he attended law school at Howard University for almost a year.

In 1965, Khazan moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts due to finding it impossible to find work in Greensboro due to his reputation of being a trouble maker for standing up for freedoms we all enjoy today. He worked as a teacher and counselor for the developmentally disabled. In 1968, he became a member of the New England Islamic Center and took his present name; Jibreel Khazan.

He married the former Lorraine France George of New Bedford. They have three children; one of their children continued his father’s legacy by graduated from N.C. A&T.

In 1994, Khazan received an honorary doctorate from A&T for his role in the civil rights movement.

Discussing the Greensboro sit-ins in 2007 at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts, Khazan said, “I didn’t do this for profit. I did it for love of God and country and for those who weren’t yet born.”

Monsieur Khazan has been quoted many times describing why he choose to SIT-IN rather than stand & accept segregation, “I didn’t do this for profit.  I did it for the love of GOD, the entire country & all those who weren’t born yet.”
